Got any ideas?

We are looking for a Christmas event to attend this year as a family.  Traditionally, we buy tickets to a December UNC game and trek over to the ol' university to see the Heels play basketball.  But we didn't do that this year.  Granted, a Carolina basketball game isn't exactly a Christmas event, but we work in looking at the lights and spending a little time with the Carolina blue Santa.

We looked into getting tickets to see the local theatrical production of A Christmas Carol, but they were very pricey, and the actor who has always played Scrooge had surgery recently, so his son is playing the lead role this year.  We hope the dad makes his return to the role next year, so we're going to wait and see.

So... what do you recommend for a family of five to do to make Christmas memories? Kid-friendly, fun, and cheap inexpensive are a plus.

Ice skating - and then driving around looking at and "grading" Christmas lights/decorations.

The church musical.

Watching Christmas movies every night for the week before Christmas as a family and drinking hot chocolate - rewinding and rewatching all your favorite parts and quoting the movies all week to each other.

Um... bundling up and going for long walks around the neighborhood, looking at Christmas lights.

Downhill skiing (not as cheap... but too fun not to recommend).

Well, those are all the things my family does around Christmas :) I'm sure you'll get other better ideas from other people :)

Merry Christmas!

Jenelle... we have never been skiing. Can you believe that?! Living just a few hours away from the slopes, we really ought to go.

Thanks for the great ideas! :)

We were in your town for a nanosecond this weekend, and I was reading in the N&O about a reworking of Amadeus at the Progress Energy Center. It's probably more than the basketball tickets, but it sounds amazing.
