Copycat...

I'm going to be honest with you. I'm flat-out copying this from my sweet and hilarious friend Tracey, who lives here in the blogosphere. I have two choices: I can clean and organize Zane's room, or I can write a blog post. I'm going with "B"... obviously.

What color are your socks right now? Socks? What socks? If it's past May 1st, I'm in Rainbows or barefootin'. Socks? Psh...

What are you listening to right now? The Lorax grind something in his yard. Can't be a tree. He loves his trees and ours too. It's quite the mystery, and I'm scared to creep too much. (For those who may not know, the Lorax lives next door. He loves trees, and whenever Jimmy goes outside to trim trees or bushes, the Lorax mysteriously appears and stares at him the whole time. The first time he appeared, Jimmy was trimming limbs growing over our driveway. The Lorax appeared and said, "How much are you going to trim? You're not cutting the trees down, are you? We like the trees." True story.)

What was the last thing you ate? Grapes, which aren't exactly on my special diet, but they were yummy and not nearly as decadent as the one-pound bag of Hershey's Kisses I'd really like to eat.

Can you drive a stick? Yes. Yes, I can. It wasn't pretty, but I learned to drive one when we had a Honda wagon back in the early '90's.

Last person you spoke to on the phone? My momma, who called to say she doesn't want to can anything this weekend. So we canceled out trip to the Farmer's Market, and I have spent the day doing laundry and reading by the pool.

How old are you today? 46. Thank you SO very much for asking. On the last survey I took, I had to check the 46-55 box. I am still 23 in my heart, though. And on Wii Fit. :)

What is your favorite sport to watch on TV? Well, I have ample opportunity to ignore football on TV, but I mildly glance at college football and vaguely pay attention to college basketball. Too ADD to follow a whole game, though. Except for Carolina when they're winning. Which wasn't last year...

What is your favorite drink? Coffee and Diet Dr. Pepper

Have you ever dyed your hair? Is dying the same as highlighting? I don't think I've ever dyed my hair, but I've highlighted the mess out of it since college. Actually, now Nicole highlights the mess out of it.

Favorite food? Fresh fruit and veggies... for reals. (And not that you asked, but I'm telling you anyway...) Favorite meal: Pei Wei rice bowl with beef and extra veggies, followed by a lovely slice of Godiva chocolate cheesecake from the Cheesecake Factory.

What is the last movie you watched? Toy Story 3. It led to this:

Favorite day of the year? Every day we're together as a family or I'm with my friends. Wait... that means it's pretty much every day.

How do you vent anger? Usually, I pout. Then I dissect the situation and why I'm right and everyone else is wrong and I tell everyone who will listen. Then I repent. And apologize. Sometimes, though not often, I yell. Then I repent. And apologize. Occasionally, I just rant to the person who's frustrating me. Then I repent. And apologize.

What was your favorite toy as a child? Barbies. Malibu Barbie, to be exact. I had entire Barbie towns set up in my room for years.

Favorite Season? Summer. Spring. Fall. Winter when it's snowing.

Cherries or Blueberries? Both if they're very ripe. Neither if they're not.

When was the last time you cried? When my daughter's best friend came over and broke our rules once again and we had to tell our baby girl she can't hang with her friend for a while.

What is on your closet floor right now? Shoes and a bag of Christmas presents that never got delivered.

What are you most afraid of? Not being in God's will.

Plain, cheese, or spicy hamburgers? Cheese, please.

Favorite dog breed? Cute little ones. OK... Shih Tzu in honor of Pepper.

Favorite day of the week? Saturday, if we don't have to go anywhere.

How many states have you lived in? One!

Diamonds or pearls? Diamonds. They sparkle.

What is your favorite flower? Roses, daisies, impatiens

Did you get an H1N1 vaccine? No, I just went ahead and got H1N1. Remember?

Ode to a head cold...

Nah. It's not really an ode, but it does make a catchy title.

I think I have a head cold. Either that or I've developed an allergy to leather. When I sit in my chair in the family room or drive my car, my nose gets all stuffy. I went outside this afternoon and sat by the pool and sweated profusely (ew), but felt much better. Then I came inside. I've felt pooey ever since.

AANNNYYYWAAYYY... Jimmy is watching World Cup soccer. In itself that's pretty funny because he hates soccer. Yet, he is sitting there watching a game between Brazil and North Korea, talking about how impressive it is when soccer players ... hmmm ... kick a curve ball? I don't know. I've never been able to watch the sport before, so ... yeah ... whatever you call it.

So, we're watching this soccer extravaganza and I see that one of the teams is PRK. PRK? I don't remember a PRK in the geography category. Then PRK scores and the announcer says North Korea scored. North Korea?! So Jimmy's trying to explain to me how PRK is the People's Republic of Korea. OK.

And now I'm off to other thoughts, as my stuffiness has apparently affected my ability to concentrate, too. Speaking of my concentration ability, about three weeks ago Mr. Mack from school suggested that I take Gingko Biloba to help improve my concentration. He estimated that it would take about three days to build up in my system to the point where I would notice a difference in my ability to concentrate. I bought some right away. Does it work? I'll get back to you on that one. So far I haven't remembered to take it more than two days in a row.

So now we're watching the NBA Finals (which evidently are so special that the word Finals has earned a cursive font from the graphics whizzes at ABC). Rasheed is still playing. Amazing.

I watched Underdog for the first time today. I've watched Meet the Robinsons (bits and pieces of it) twice in the last 36ish hours.

I think the funniest thing about this World Cup soccer thing is the big brouhaha over those horns. Speaking of horns, if you ever have any of the Great Value (Walmart store brand) hot dog chili, keep some antacids handy. Just sayin'.

Well, I'm really missing breathing right about now, so I think I might go and get two of those popsicles I forgot to serve last night at Bible study and shove one up each nostril and see if the cold helps my cold.

I will leave you with this picture of Pepper. It has nothing to do with anything above, but the stuff above doesn't really have any coherence anyway, so I guess it fits in perfectly.

Bathhouse... maybe?

I mean, if you're going to go to that much trouble, why not just go ahead and build a real bathhouse?

The me I never knew...

spokeo.com is a little bit of a scary place. They compile lots of personal information on folks using (as best as I can tell) public records and maybe a little Internet cookie-tracking.

I learned about this website on Facebook, and I've since had them delete me from their database.

However, before I did, I learned a lot about myself. For example, I am in my LATE 40's (not). I am Hispanic (not). I live in a $1M+ house (definitely not). I am a technology professional (not). And I do not particularly care about politics. (How did they totally miss my Drudge Report obsession?!)

Crazy place, that Internet.

Spring Break 2010!

It is Spring Break! Finally!

So here's the quick update:

1. The picture is old, but pretty... yes? I love the beach.

2. My USB cable for uploading pics is MIA. I have good new pics, but...sigh... they are stuck on the camera.

3. My job almost ate me alive again. Back down to 4-5 hours sleep a night for 3+ weeks straight... including weekends.

4. Due to #3, most everything else in the world went on hold, including laundry, cooking meals, cleaning house, and (sadly) family time. Our house is a very scary place right now. Eek.

5. I still love working with teenagers, but I've discovered I'm not really called or cut out for teaching middle schoolers all day long. There will be a post in a couple of weeks; I can't 'splain it more yet.

6. I simply adore my journalism class, from my teaching partner to our editors to each and every student in the class.

7. I simply adore my fifth period class... freshman English. I spent April 1st hiding my cart from them and their duct tape. :) Yet they are learning to write and "getting" the literature. I am proud of them. They make me smile.

8. Parenting a teen girl is WAY harder than I imagined. Her disappointments filter through my own memories. It's like a megaphone for emotion. I pray a lot.

9. As a result of doing Beth Moore's Stepping Up, I am finding that the best place for me to pray is on my face.

10. Jimmy decided shortly before the SuperBowl that we needed digital TV. Now no one can figure out how to work the remote. It's been nicely quiet in the house.

11. I am going to paint furniture like a crazy lady over this break. Kitchen table and chairs. Chairs that once belonged to my Granny. A bunch of picture frames.

12. Our pool looks like a biology experiment gone horribly wrong. Ick.

13. Working on getting taxes together. Yeah... we're a little behind where we usually are. See #3.

14. I am trying to figure out what Bible study to do over the summer: host study for teens, do study with my friends, go to whatever study they have a church... ???... I NEED a Bible study group this summer. I desperately miss the fellowship and depth of discussion.

15. Zack and I have watched specials on the lost city of Atlantis, the lost City of Gold, and the lost Ark of the Covenant this morning. The Ark special is sparking some pretty cool theological discussions with the eight-year-old. I love Jesus. He is doing awesome things!

16. We've gotta help Gramma get her garden space set up. Zane is her landscape maintenance specialist this year (mowing her lawn... ftw).

17. Oh goodness... I have Sweet Sixteen party to plan this summer. Yowza!

18. I like to vacation in two places: home and Carolina Beach. My world is small, and I am good with that. Unfortunately, the rest of the family doesn't feel the same.

19. Our summer hasn't even started and we have already maxed it out with camps and mission trips and sports. Sigh...

20. I am waiting for some news about next year. See #3.

And that is all for now. That's quite enough, don't you think?

Grace and peace, friends! And much, much love...

Things I'm thinking about...

... while waiting for Kellie Pickler to come on the American Idol results show. And a little after that too.

************************************************************************

-the new season of Deadliest Catch starts Tuesday, April 14th. Yay!

-Shoot... I forgot to buy paper towels.

-I really like Kellie Pickler's song "Don't You Know You're Beautiful."

-For goodness sake, somebody help Scott to the other side of the stage.

-Those are some seriously weird stools. How do you sit on them without sliding off?

-Is "disembowel" the right word for what Pepper just did to the stuffed pink and green bone?

-Zane looks just like Jimmy when he falls asleep on the sofa.

-What on Earth is Pepper doing?!

-"I'm a cat. I'm a kitty cat. And I dance, dance, dance, dance, dance, dance, dance."

-Are underwear-shoppers the dominant demographic for American Idol?

-There is no movie in theaters that makes me want to walk on those sticky floors.

-Adam Lambert's name is just one letter off of Adam Lamberg's name. Adam Lamberg played Gordo on Lizzie McGuire.

-How did I ever watch TV without being able to Google stuff?

-Why gloves? That's odd.

-I still miss Jason Castro. Wonder why his brother didn't make it on the show. I wanna watch "Somewhere Over the Rainbow." YouTube!

-I'd really love to learn to play the ukulele. And surf. But not at the same time.

-I wish we could sell the condo. Now.

-Hummm... that was a little pitchy. Careful how close you move to that camera.

-Anoop. In or out? I hate they way Ryan announces stuff. It's so confusing. That ... plus the fact that I can't sing ... keeps me off American Idol.

-OK... bedtime.

-Wonder where Kelsey's track uniform is. Third night in a row - emergency load of laundry.

-Wish I knew where Jake's sister got his "got championships?" shirt.

-How warm is it supposed to get tomorrow?

-Would the extra cost to overnight a megalodon tooth be worth the squeal of delight in the Easter basket?

-Wal-Mart. Tomorrow.

-Sleep. Tonight.

-"Jesus the One and Only" first.

-Night.
